Author of two critically acclaimed books, dozens of essays, and two award-winning PBS specials, GregAlan Williams has starred in more than 100 films and prime-time episodes including, The District, Drop Dead Diva, Army Wives, City of Angels, The West Wing, The Sopranos, The Game, and Tyler Perry, Meet The Browns.
Heralded nationally as hero and Good Samaritan for his rescue of a brutally beaten motorist at the intersection of Florence and Normandie – epicenter of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, Williams responded to these accolades
with his book, A Gathering of Heroes, hailed as “…a moving illumination on the meaning of brotherhood.” (Kirkus Review) GregAlan’s deep and revealing conversation about male values, Boys To Men – Maps for the Journey (Doubleday/Bantam/Dell) was proclaimed, “a powerful parenting resource” for African-American mothers bringing sons to manhood.
Williams' eye-opening published essay, For Black, Brown, and Beige, Baby Girls-- inspired by his seven seasons on the most watched television show in the world, Baywatch-- affirms the beauty of women of color and the selfworth of every woman, living in the age of cosmetic, manufactured, ultra-thin, and eternally youthful, media images.
In 1995, the master story-teller's award winning, turn-of-the-century, PBS, one-man-show, The Life and Times of Deacon A.L. Wiley, won top writing honors during the Black Film Makers Hall of Fame Film Festival. 1534
Cleveland, GregAlan's Emmy nominated collection of essays on growing up African-American in the Midwest during the turbulent sixties, was also produced as a one-hour public television special in 2002.
In addition to his work with fragile families and the Head Start Program, as well as lectures and keynotes from Harvard to Howard, GregAlan is long-time host of the Black College Quiz, the nationally televised
academic competition featuring top teams from the nation’s HBCU's,
January, 2010, the Emmy winner stars as Bishop Earnest King, in Warner Brothers’ powerful prodigal daughter saga, Preacher's Kid opposite LeToya Luckett of Destiny’s Child fame.
Also in 2010, GregAlan portrays famed North Carolina AT&T president, Dr. Samuel Proctor, in the engrossing civil rights drama, Blood Done Sign My Name.
On TBS, viewers currently enjoy GregAlan as Elise Neal’s (Hustle&Flow) fun loving father in the new Disney sponsored micro series, My Manny. The CW/BET hit series, The Game, features GregAlan as Tia Mowry’s
pompous doctor dad. This coming March, on FOX, GregAlan stars in a recurring role as Special Agent Eli Parson, on the new prime time series Past Life, airing immediately after American Idol. Other recent recurring
roles include Lifetime Television’s Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva.
Of special note is William’s role as Coach Paul "Doc" Hines in Remember the Titans with Oscar winner, Denzel Washington, as well as, his regular role on primetime’s first black medical drama, City of Angels (Blair Underwood, Viola Davis, Gabrielle Union) and his three seasons opposite Tony Award winner, Lynn Thigpen, on the popular Washington DC based crime drama, The District. And of course, one can't forget GregAlan's possessive seven seasons on the most watched television show in the world, Baywatch/Batwatch Nights.
GregAlan is currently in Atlanta, shooting the mega-hit sequel, Stomp The Yard 2 , where he appears as university president, Dr. David Young.
